brodys one month appt.

Today was Brody's one month appointment. its hard to believe hes been in our lives one month already. ANd its hard to believe its been a month since ive slept more than 2 hours at a time!:) Brody apparently had huge growth spurt this week....he gained 10 oz. so now he is 9 lbs 12 oz. hes changing so much already and getting so much bigger every day!

Weight check

We went back in to check Brody's weight today. and hes only half an ounce away from his birth weight! i guess im just not making enough milk for this hungry little monster:)i hate using formula...but hopefully we wont have to use it too much longer!

Back to the Doctor

We went back to the dr. today and brody has gained almost 3 oz. Praise the Lord! we are going to stick with feeding some formula until hes back up to his birth weight.

2 week check up

Today we went for Brody's 2 week check up. everything looked good except he had lost some more weight. So the is having me supplement with formula until tomorrow and they are going to check his weight again. they said he could gain up to a couple ounces by tomorrow. i guess my milk supply has dropped some and i didnt know it:( hopefully the formula helps!

The first 10 days

Its been 10 days since Brody entered the world:) and i have definitely been way to busy to write about it! its amazing how a little thing that eats, sleeps, and poops can take up all of your time! it has been wonderful though! the first few nights a home were pretty rough. Brody would sleep fine all day long and then as soon as it was bedtime for us he would wake up! He was determined that one of us was going to hold him all night. He would sleep fine as long as he was being held....but as soon as we would put him in his bassinette he would start wailing! so brian spent several nights sleeping with him in the recliner. thankfully the past few nights have been much better and he has been sleeping in his bassinette and i have been getting to sleep in our bed. Getting up every 3 hours to feed him at night however doesnt make me feel very rested:)! Anyway....being a mom is wonderful. Just knowing that this little buddy is part of me and brian is an amazing feeling. Its crazy how much more i love him every day!

First Pics

Brody had his first pictures taken today at 9 days old. Our friend courtney who took my pregnancy pics took these too. They are adorable! ive only seen a few of them, but im sure the rest are just as cute! Brody was great for the pictures. he was awake almost the whole time...which is amazing. The only little mishap was that he peed halfway across the room while we were taking the naked pics...it was pretty funny!

Brody's First Doctors Visit

Today we went to the pediatrician for the first time. This was our first outing.....Its amazing how long it takes you to get out of the door with a baby! Brody weighed 8 lbs 7 oz. Babies always lose a little bit of weight in the first few days. The doctor said everything looked great! She did have us go to Rex after the appointment to get his bilirubin levels check to make sure he wasnt jaundiced. she said she thought he looked a little bit "yellow". The levels came back fine though and she told us just to put him in front of the window as much as possible to soak up the sun.

Brody is Here!!

Brody is here!!! i will try to give you the short version of everything that has happened in the past 2 days....

At 12:30 a.m. on Nov 21 i woke up having some cramping. I tossed and turned and tried to sleep for about an hour, but at 1:30 i decided to wake up brian because i knew that these were contractions and were definitely close together and were getting more painful. Brian stayed awake with me until 3:00 am when we decided to call the doctor because the contractions had been 4-5 minutes apart for the hour and a half we had been timing them. Dr. Woodruff told me to come on in to the hospital and that they would check me out to see if it was time for our little man to come! When i arrived at the hospital around 3:30 am, i was 3 cm dilated and 60 % effaced. So they decided to admit me! Around 7 a.m. the nurses change shift and we were so excited to know that my friend Jenna was working and would be my nurse! It was so nice to have a familiar face and someone you trust with you during this amazing time! I was also so excited to hear that Dr. Woodruff was on call....he delivered me and my brother and i was hoping he would be able to deliver Brody as well. He came in to check on me and told me that he wanted to deliver Brody so he was going to make sure i had him by lunch time because thats when he was getting off for the day. So he went ahead and broke my water to speed up the process. My contractions continued to stay really close together and were pretty unbearable before the anesthesiologist gave me my epidural. He was great.... i didnt hardly feel it! On that note...can i just say that women who want to give birth natually are completely crazy!! after the epidural i didnt feel a single contraction....it was wonderful! (Let me also say that, it doesnt take away ALL feeling. i definitely felt every pound of Brody's 8 lbs 14 oz body coming out! but it wasnt as much pain as it was a ton of pressure.) anyway.... i started feeling alot of pressure and new that it was probably about time to push....sure enough, when they checked i had gone from 5 cm to 10 cm in no time! it was time!! After pushing for almost 2 hours with my great coaches Jenna and Brian, i was exhausted. no matter what i did he was not going to come out because of how big he was. So Dr. woodruff came in and used the vacuum to give Brody a little help. Brody James Kohout came into the world on November 21, 2007 at 12:00 pm. He weighed 8 lbs 14 oz and was 22.5 inches long. He is doing GREAT!! I am so proud to be his mommy! Its amazing how much you can love this little person that you just met a few hours earlier. Hopefully we will be heading home tomorrow!

38 week appointment

Latest update....Brody has dropped farther down but im still only 1-2 cm dialated. weight gain= 38 lbs. The doctor says theres no telling when he will come:)

37 week appointment

At the doctor today......ive gained 36 pounds, and i am 1-2 cm dialated! So at least there has been some progress and Brody is on his way!! no telling when that will be though!

36 week appt.

im now going to the dr. every week until Brody is born. Today at my appointment, they did the group b strep test and checked to see if i am dialated or effaced. The doctor said he is definitely in the head-down position and is probably about 6 lbs. Im not dialated at all yet but she said that i am beginning effacement. There is no telling when he will come though it could be next week or it could be 6 weeks from now....hopefully sooner than later!!

Realization

Ive come to the realization that its going to be a VERY long time before i get a good nights sleep again. Its been about a week now since ive slept well. Its amazing how much it takes to even turn over in bed! not to mention that im not supposed to turn over....when someboby tells you that you HAVE to sleep on your left side....your left side becomes very uncomfortable, and all you want to do is sleep on your right side! So between being extremely uncomfortable with a big tummy, and having to pee every 2 hours, im realizing that this is only going to get worse over the next 5 and a half weeks...and will be followed by night time feedings and a crying baby.Needless to say, it will probably be a year at least before i get to sleep well again. I know it will all be worth it though when i get to see my sweet baby's face!

34 week appointment

Well only 6 more weeks to go! After gaining 29 pounds and beginning to start to feel very uncomfortable at night, i am definitely ready to have this sweet baby! At my doctors appointment today, they did the usual routine. My doctor also said that hes pretty sure Brody is in the right position to make his appearance. So hopefully he will stay that way, and wont be breech. I REALLY dont want a C-section! but honestly at this point I would do just about anything to meet this sweet little boy....i cant wait!!!

Our Anniversary/ "Babymoon"

We just got back from our 5 year anniversary trip or Babymoon....whichever you want to call it. It was our last trip before our lives change forever! No more jumping in the car to go out of town. From what Ive heard it will take lots more planning and there will be MUCH more stuff to bring along. We went to Hilton Head Island for 4 days and completely relaxed. It was wonderful. we stayed right on the beach, and yes even though it is October it was still warm. Brian treated me to a prenatal massage which was of course wonderful. it was an amazing 4 days of pure relaxation. and for those of you who have been pregnant...im sure you can appreciate it:) No more traveling for me though for awhile!! Ive got to stay put until Brody decides to make his appearance into the world!

32 week Dr. appointment

Today my mom went with me to my 32 week appointment. Brody's heartbeat was 153 bpm and i measured at exactly 32 weeks. So, everything is right on target! I got my flu shot today too....ugg. well only 8 more weeks and i will get to meet our sweet little boy!!

its official....i have an Outie

well...its official...i have an outie! ive been noticing my belly button beginning to poke out little by little. but today at church all of my sweet friends had to point out the fact that my belly button had officially popped out. So, since everyone is noticing i thought i would let the rest of you know:)

Another appointment

well, one more doctor's appointment down! everything once again looked really good! ive officially gained 25 lbs....uggg. but apparently thats normal at this point according to the doctor. Brody's heartbeat was 143 today, its slowing down as he gets bigger and bigger! according to all of the pregnancy info ive read...he probably weighs around 3.5 lbs now! Hes definitely kicking more and more. its so crazy to watch my belly move from side to side as he changes positions!

Another Appointment

Today i went to the Doctor for my glucose screening to screen if i have gestational diabetes. Thankfully all of my blood-work came back wonderful! The doctor said everything looked perfect! I have officially gained 20 lbs...ugg....but apparently thats exactly how much i should have gained by now! I got to listen to Brody's heartbeat of course....that sound NEVER gets old! His heartbeat at this appointment was 153 bpm...just right! Now i will start going to the dr. every 2 weeks until i am 36 weeks along!

Naming our Baby Boy:)

We have officially decided on a name for our sweet baby boy. His name will be Brody James Kohout! we wanted something a little different for his first name, but not too weird:) and his middle name is a family name on brian's side. brian's dad and grandfather both have james in their names.

New Beginnings

Well, I have decided that its about time i start recording all of the amazing things going on in the Kohout family's life right now. it is definitely a year of new beginnings! God has blessed us so much more than we could ever imagine! We are due with a little boy on November 30th! i am finally working as a dental hygienist after graduating in may. God has blessed me with an amazing job at an office very close to home working 2 days a week, so i can keep that job after the baby arrives. we also sold our house after only 2 weeks of 'for sale by owner' and we bought 10 acres that we are going to start building a new house on very soon! Until then we are living with my parents and i am definitely enjoying being a little spoiled until the baby comes!! then im sure it will be the baby that is getting spoiled! God is doing so many amazing new things in our life right now, i will try to keep everyone updated with all that he is blessing us with!

Daddy's first kicks

We were staying at a hotel for the first night of our florida missions trip and brian felt the baby kick for the first time!

ITS A BOY!

we went in for our ultrsound today! and we found out we are having a boy! everything measured like it was supposed to and he is very healthy! praise the Lord!

First Movement

Tonight was the first night that I felt consistent movement from the little one:) I had felt movement here and there but nothing that lasted any amount of time. Tonight during small group i felt constant little kicks for probably 45 minutes. Brian was unable to feel them, but im sure he will soon enough!

Monthly Checkups

Today we had our monthly checkup. Everything looked great! and the babies heartbeat was 158 bpm. Next appt. we will get to find out the sex!

Unscheduled visit

Today today i woke up with what i thought was a UTI. So to the Dr. i went, only to find out that i was perfectly fine! But i was very glad because i got to hear the baby's heartbeat again. That sound NEVER gets old!

First visit with the Doctor

Today was my first visit with the Dr. All of the other appointments have been with nurses or the ultrasound technician. She did a full exam and then we got to hear the heartbeat with the doppler. He/She was moving around so much that it was hard to catch the heartbeat. Dr. Stevens was having to chase the baby all over the place!

God is Good!

Well this weekend was a little nerve-wracking. I started bleeding a little on saturday night. I called the Dr. and she said not to worry and to come in on monday morning. Of course i DID worry, but on monday we found out everything was fine. Brian was unable to go to the appointment with me because of a fundraiser he had all day for NRCA, so my mom got to go with me. They did another ultrasound, and we got to see the little one moving all around and his little heart beating away! it was such a relief! Mom was so excited that she got to go and i was glad that she finally got to see her first grandchild!

Our Second Ultrasound

We had another Ultrasound today!! They are keeping such a close eye on the baby...its so nice! We saw the little arms and legs! They even showed it to us in 3D which was really neat! We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time too! we recorded the heartbeat so we could let our friends and family hear it too! We also had our prenatal visit and they crammed lots and lots of information into our heads that was way too much to remember!

Telling the Parents!

We went to Richmond today right after our first ultrasound for easter weekend. We showed Brians parents the ultrasound pictures and told them our news. They were really excited, of course! We told my parents about 2 days after we found out we were expecting. We waited longer to tell Brian's parents because we wanted to be able to tell them in person!

First Ultrasound

We had our first ultrasound today! We found out that i was 5 and 1/2 weeks along. We got to see the heartbeat! it was so exciting! The baby didnt look like much more than a tiny heart beating, but it was great to see him/her!

second dr. appointment

Today I went to the OB again to have my blood work done for the second time. They wanted to make sure that my hormones were rising like they should. And they were! PRAISE THE LORD!

We are expecting!

Today we found out that we are expecting! We found out this morning before work. I called the Doctors office that afternoon and they wanted me to come in right away for blood work. Tonight all of our friends are coming over for small group. It is going to be really hard not to say anything when we are so excited!
