School is out for the summer! Brody finished his end-of-year testing and Aven graduated from preschool this week!

School is out!

 Both boys have finished school.....

 

 And its officially SUMMER!!!

Reading

During Christmas break, Brody was beginning to act board, so Brian picked up a Boxcar Children book and told him to start reading it. Brody was hooked...He couldn't put it down. We gave him the first 12 books last Christmas (for me to read to him). Brian promised Brody a pocket knife if he completed the books, thinking it would take him awhile since these are 3rd grade reading level! We got him a reading light for his bed and some nights he will stay up until 10:30 reading (perks of homeschool). He finished all 12 books in 3 months:) We are so proud of him!

Our homeschool co-op celebrated Christmas together with crafts, food, and stories!

Homeschool Thanksgiving Party

We celebrated Thanksgiving (on Brody's birthday) with our homeschool co-op. We read the book Stone Soup and every child brought one ingredient for our soup! Ive never seen the kids so excited about vegetable soup before:) They loved getting to help make it and having a part in preparing the food. They made Pilgrim and Indian hats and a few other fun crafts.

Washington D.C.

Brody and I were able to tag along on a trip with Brian and some students to Washington D.C. It was such a fun weekend to spend time with just our oldest! He loved getting some one-on-one time and he soaked up all of the history in the city!

Apple Orchard

We had our first homeschool field trip of the school year at a nearby apple orchard. We didn't actually get to pick apples but we the kids had a great day and the weather was beautiful!

Levi's first day of preschool!

This little dude has been so excited about starting preschool! He has watched big brother go to preschool, camps, and play sports and has been waiting to get to do something "big"!

First day of 1st Grade!

We have a first grader! I am so honored to be able to teach this amazing boy again this year!

Kindergarten complete!

Kindergarten is complete! We are so proud of Brody and how well he did this year! This year could not have been more perfect. Brody flew threw his curriculum and we ended up going to the next level up in math and reading/writing halfway through the year. It was great being able to go through material at Brody's own pace and not wait on an entire class to understand a concept! We typically did his schoolwork in the afternoon while Levi and Aven took their naps. It worked out great! He was able to have the mornings to play and just be a kid:) We did some field trips with our homeschool co-op and were able to take lots of trips during the week and take school on the road! I was looking through pictures of this year and realizing how much Brody would have missed out on and how much we would have missed out on with Brody if he was at school 7 hours a day. It was a joy and a privilege to teach him this year! We are so proud of him! 

We went out for dinner at Kanki to celebrate the end of the school year!

Nutrition Field trip

Our homeschool group went to Lowes Food for a field trip. They spent 1.5 hours teaching our kids about the food groups, healthy eating, gave the kids samples of food from each food group, showed them how to check out items, and let the kids go in the freezer in the back. The kids had a blast! Levi even loved it and has been asking for healthy foods and been way more adventurous in trying new foods!
